Prefab Clay harnesses the natural hygroscopic behavior of earth-fiber composites to generate self-forming curved geometries. Through controlled moisture evaporation, flat clay-wood shaving panels contract into sail vault configurations without external formwork or mechanical intervention. Testing demonstrated compressive strength of 8119N and exceptional thermal insulation (0.0693 W/m·K), with flexural capacity of 11.54 kgf and 2-hour waterproofing performance.
The integration of wood shavings serves dual purposes: fiber reinforcement prevents shrinkage cracking while creating internal texture variation. Wet shavings produce smooth surfaces; dry shavings create rougher textures. The resulting curved panels demonstrate potential for modular vaulted structures through various connection patterns.
